Research into new training practices
London South LSC commissioned ORC International to undertake research to
explore training practices and needs of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
In June 2005, ORC International undertook a telephone survey of 500 SMEs in
the London South area. The following section highlights key findings from
the survey.
Just over half of respondents had a business plan (58%), 54% had a Sales & Marketing plan and 42% a Training plan. 61% of respondents provided written job specifications, 58% conducted annual performance appraisals and 43% assessed skills gaps. 30% had a training budget and 28% had Investors in People status.
